Article: The DACA 'Fix' That Immigration Activists Fear
Recently, the Trump administration announced that they intended to get rid of DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA, instituted in 2012, lets illegal immigrants who are minors apply to legally stay in the U.S. If it was repealed, however, these individuals would be deported. In the process of applying, the were obviously asked for a lot of information about themselves and the government could use that information to track them down easily. The individuals protected by DACA, called "Dreamers", obviously care about this article and this news because it affects them directly. On a broader scale, immigration is a hot-button issue in the U.S. because of the rising amount of immigrants, legal or otherwise, entering the country, and the varying opinions on this lead to controversy over if the government should help or hinder them. Immigrants or those close to immigrants could also feel attacked indirectly by the removal of DACA. Many states, including Connecticut are also currently suing the Trump administration for its decision on DACA.
