Opinion Piece - Ben
I read a New York Times op-ed piece about how media is causing a separation between people in the United States and how media is influencing people's decisions, especially in the 2016 election. It's a strong opinion piece because it contains the writer's own opinions, but the writer uses facts and statistics to back up their opinions. For example, they say that the number of people that use social media as their primary source of news is relatively small. They support their opinion with the statistic that "14 percent of American adults reported that social media was their most important source of news for the 2016 election." They also use studies about different demographics that use social media the least and the most and how that influenced their decision.
